Mauricio Pochettino considers it’s essential for Tottenham to get their Champions League campaign underway in order that they could”repair the damage” done by their own defeat at the last year.
Spurs were beaten 2-0 by Liverpool at the 2018/19 closing in Madrid using an early Mohamed Salah penalty and also a Divock Origi strike inflicting defeat on the north London side.
Pochettino currently says it is essential for Spurs to get off to a fantastic start in their 2019/20 European campaign’s first match .
“There has been a very long period after the final in Madrid and, to be honest, I had been thinking a lot during the summertime,” he explained.
“To get rid of the closing is always so painful as you can not put the atmosphere, and you want to wait to begin again to fix the damage”
Tottenham travel to Greece for your match, looking to find off this year’s collection stage to a much better start than last word.
They failed to win the first 3 matches in Group B, facing Barcelona, Inter Milan and PSV, prior to moving unbeaten in their games and qualifying for the knockout stages.
Pochettino understands his side will be being written off this season, but needs them to earn an impression by putting in a good performance in Athens and also getting off to a start.
He explained:”No one is thinking or giving chance to become a contender to be in the final in Istanbul this season. But that is normal. This makes it very exciting, our run in the Champions League.
“A few months back we played the final of the Champions League and of course [playing] Olympiakos is going to put us in this amount of favourites.
“It is going to be a challenging atmosphere. The opponent is respected by me and you need to show why you are favourites when you begin the game.
“We are going to make some changes, for different reasons, however, the focus must maintain the functionality and quality of performance”
