Heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier (21-1, 1 NC, 10 KOs, 4 SUBs) will defend his title against knockout artist Derrick Lewis (21-5, 18 KOs, 1 SUBs). The card issuers reside on starting 10pm ET.
Just one pay-per-view after the Khabib-McGregor superfight, the UFC is giving us a heavyweight title game. Plus it just so happens to feature among UFC 229’s breakout star:”The Black Beast” himself, Derrick Lewis. It is 1 matter to score a dramatic, last-second comeback win in a battle you were getting dominated. However, Lewis topped that by following this up with the funniest post-fight interview in UFC history, on the greatest night in UFC history.
That is 1 way of becoming a celebrity. And today, the one-dimensional knockout artist who never really seemed like a legitimate competitor is fighting to get the title less than a month after having a beating in the hands of Alexander Volkov. Daniel Cormier’s probably drooling at the thought of an easy paycheck. It is going to also be his first heavyweight title protection.
Despite the UFC announcing a banger of a storm involving middleweight hulks Yoel Romero and Paulo Costa, the enormous Cuban has said that the fight will not be taking place. Though we hope this contest happens, we tend to believe that the fighter when they stated that they are not prepared. Let’s hope he heals up in time.
If those 185-pounders do not get it on, there are still three mad good middleweight matchups to anticipate. The largest of them is a rematch between former winners Luke Rockhold and Chris Weidman, respectively rated No. 2 and No. 3. Perennial contender Ronaldo”Jacare” Souza matches former WSOF champ David Branch, together with both guys jockeying to get a title position. The division’s most exciting prospect, Israel Adesanya, sets his undefeated record on the line against No. 6 Derek Brunson. Occasionally,”The previous Stylebender” looks like the second coming of a prime Anderson Silva, and everyone is expecting that this dude is for real.

UFC 230 Betting Lines, Predictions and Picks
Here’s a weird story. In a meeting with MMAJunkie just days after the Volkov fight, Lewis came out and said that he had no urge to headline UFC 230. That he had already begun eating breakfast biscuits and also his cardio was nowhere near the level it needed to be in to virtually challenge for the name.
He finished that interview by reluctantly saying that it’d take a giant paycheck for him to leap into a title fight with a few of the finest to ever do it. Later that day, Dana White announced that Lewis would be battling for the name. Sounds like somebody got PAID.
However, the UFC’s greed is revealing here. Lewis was nearly finished multiple times, and it was apparent he could not survive five rounds. Now the UFC is putting him on a card less than a month later? That’s known as tapping a celebrity turn. And while we adore how honorable DC is, it sure seems like he’s cherry picking here.
The last time Weidman and Rockhold fulfilled, the AKA surfer boy cracked the former All-American wrestler and took the belt from him. Time has not softened the grudge between the two, and it was a close fight up until that point. Rockhold has since been pumped out twice, indicating that his chin is a serious weakness. Coincidentally, Weidman suffered two brutal knockouts as well before bouncing back against Kelvin Gastelum.
Both these middleweights are great everywhere, though they have different approaches in every phase. Rockhold’s submission grappling is topnotch, but Weidman is a stellar classic wrestler. Weidman can box with the best of these, but Luke’s unorthodox kicks can do major harm.
Ronaldo Souza can’t appear to catch a rest. One of the very accomplished BJJ artists to enter the octagon, he has been in multiple title eliminators, just to fall short in every one. Beating David Branch probably wouldn’t seal the bargain, but he could keep his title on a brief list of worthy challengers. Branch could vault in the title mix by taking the well-regarded Brazilian.
Israel Adesanya has everything required to be a star: an engaging personality and what’s more, an electric fighting style. He is obviously a special striker, landing all eight limbs with exceptional accuracy and power. Obviously, like all great standup artists, he has to pass on the wrestler test, also Derek Brunson – a former collegiate wrestler – is much more than qualified to dish that out.
